Inspectors to examine barriers on Bay Bridge

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Inspectors will be on the Bay Bridge this week, examining a part of the bridge where a tractor-trailer crashed through a concrete barrier and into the water.
The eastbound span of the bridge will be reduced to one lane while inspectors do their work. The lane closure is expected to last from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Traffic will be diverted to the westbound span, which will operate with two-way traffic.
The crash on Aug. 10 happened while there was two-way traffic on the eastbound span. A driver crossed the center line and ran into the truck, killing the truck driver, 57-year-old John Short.
A spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority could not say exactly what inspectors will be looking for, only that they will be examining the barriers.
